Our Legal Document Beginnings Started in 1980

Originally established in 1980 in an historic building in old downtown Ventura, our original name was A Paralegal Solution. Our business name evolved over the years to A People’s Choice to comply with changes to statutory regulations in B&P Code Section 6400-6401.6 and 11 USC Section 110. Although we have offered probate and other legal document services for years through our original website, we felt the need to have a separate website devoted to the topic of probate and estate administration. Thus, was born.

Vision of our Founder

In 1980, Sandra McCarthy founded A People’s Choice, The company originally had a local clientele. However, as the internet grew, so did our founder’s vision to expand the company’s ability to offer low-cost legal document preparation services throughout California. When the company first started, the clientele came mainly through attorney referrals and local advertising. Over the years, however, the company expanded its web presence to offer low-cost, non-attorney legal document help and services throughout all 58 counties in  California, competing with the big guys such as LegalZoom, Rocket Lawyer and others. Now our websites have over 100,000 views every month, making us one of California’s leading providers of low-cost legal document services.

Ms. McCarthy has worked exclusively in the legal field since 1976. She served as the President of CALDA (California Association of Legal Document Assistants) 2004-2005. During her career, she obtained a Paralegal Certificate from the University of California, Santa Barbara; and has also worked as a freelance paralegal, law office manager and paralegal studies teacher. She has co-authored thousands of self-help legal articles and booklets for the self-represented.
